Boutique strategy. Built-in execution. Inspired by what's within.

Strategy and execution for the moment you're in.

Catalyst is a North Carolina strategy firm for heart-led leaders and mission-driven organizations. We build adaptive strategies with you — then stay close to help you execute, through a vetted multidisciplinary network across the Southeast and beyond.

Most strategic plans stall the moment the board approves them. Ours don’t. From our offices in Raleigh and Wilson, we partner with nonprofits, higher-ed institutions, municipalities, founders, and civic leaders across the Southeast — pairing rigorous strategy with the operators, designers, storytellers, and fractional executives needed to achieve real results.

Proud to serve and partner with mission-driven organizations who advance the public good

Most strategy ends at the deck. Ours begins there.

Strategic planning is at the core of what we do. We design strategies that are desirable for the people they serve, viable for the business, and feasible within real-world constraints — and we stay through the work of making them real. Once your board approves the plan, Catalyst remains embedded and activates a vetted network of partners who specialize in turning strategy into exceptional work.

We plan it.

We build it.

We see it through.

Co-created strategy grounded in research, facilitation, and decades of cross-sector experience. Built to be approved — and built to be executed.

A trusted multidisciplinary bench — brand and creative leadership, Emmy-winning storytelling, growth and revenue operators, facilitators, and capital strategists — activated as your plan requires.

Embedded advisory and fractional leadership so the plan keeps moving after kickoff. No revolving door, no lost momentum, no “see you at the next quarterly review.”

Every strategy we build lives at the intersection of what people want, what the business can sustain, and what’s actually achievable. That’s the only place real progress lives.

It starts with the plan. It works because of what comes next.

01

Strategic Planning

We co-create three to five-year strategic plans with leaders ready to align mission, growth, and execution. Through stakeholder research, leadership interviews, and structured facilitation, we surface what’s working, what’s in the way, and what’s possible — then translate it into a board-ready roadmap your team can actually move on.

You walk away with: A clear, prioritized strategic plan with named owners, sequenced milestones, and a realistic resourcing model — not a 90-page document that lives on a shelf.

02

Embedded Advisory & Fractional Leadership

After the plan is approved, we stay. We step in as embedded advisors or fractional executives — CEO, COO, CMO, CRO, or chief of staff support — at a fraction of the cost of a full-time hire and without the turnover that derails most mission-driven organizations.

You walk away with: Senior strategic horsepower at your disposal — driving the plan forward, building your team’s capacity, and protecting your time as the leader.

03

Human-Centered Design & Facilitation

When a strategy needs buy-in to live, we facilitate. Board retreats, cross-sector coalitions, community engagement sessions, leadership offsites, and design-thinking sprints — all built around the people who will ultimately execute the work.

You walk away with: Aligned stakeholders, a shared decision, and a documented path forward — captured in language your team can act on Monday morning.

04

Capacity Building & Growth Systems

For organizations ready to scale revenue, partnerships, or impact, we install the systems that make growth repeatable. Sales and business development infrastructure, marketing strategy, leadership coaching, and team operating rhythms — designed so the plan keeps producing results long after our engagement ends.

You walk away with: A team that’s clearer on priorities, stronger on pipeline, and equipped to deliver without burning out.

Not sure which of these you need?

Who We Serve

Heart-led leaders. Mission-driven organizations. Communities and businesses building something that matters.

Public Sector & Civic Leaders

For mayors, town managers, county leadership, and economic-development directors moving comprehensive plans and policy ambition into funded execution.

For executive directors and boards navigating capital campaigns, executive transitions, mergers, and the gap between mission and capacity.

For presidents, provosts, and advancement leaders responding to enrollment pressure, workforce alignment, and rising expectations of community relevance.

For founders and CEOs reaching the inflection point where ambition outpaces structure — and the next chapter requires more than the playbook that got them here.

For founder-led firms scaling past their original team — clarifying positioning, building business-development infrastructure, and protecting the culture that made them.

For developers, owners, and operators balancing capital realities, regulatory complexity, and community expectations across the Carolinas.

Not sure where you fit?

More than outcomes, we build trust.

Our clients have:

Secured millions in revenues and public and philanthropic investment.

Built cross-sector partnerships to tackle critical issues.

Repositioned for scale and long-term sustainability.

Reimagined governance, operations, advancement, personnel and other strategic priorities.

Why Catalyst

Simply put, we win. We ask the right questions. We listen deeply. And we stay with you — not just through the plan, but through the work of making it real.

FAQs

Leaders often come to Catalyst seeking clarity, momentum, and a partner who can move as quickly and thoughtfully as their mission requires. These FAQs address the questions we hear most from organizations navigating growth, transition, or change.

Our goal is to help you understand how our embedded expertise, adaptive strategy, and human-centered approach can unlock measurable progress—while reducing the cost, risk, and turnover associated with traditional hiring.

Why are you called Catalyst?

A catalyst doesn’t replace what’s already there — it accelerates what’s already possible. That’s exactly how we work. We don’t impose outside answers; we help leaders surface and act on the potential already inside their teams, communities, and business models. The name is the promise: we’re here to speed up what you’re already capable of building.

Most of our clients come to us at one of three moments: a strategic plan that has stalled, a leadership transition that needs strategic ballast, or a growth inflection point where the next chapter is bigger than the current structure. Specifically, we help with strategic planning, capital campaign and revenue strategy, executive transitions, fractional leadership, board and team alignment, public-private partnerships, brand and narrative repositioning, and capacity building for nonprofits, higher-ed institutions, municipalities, and growth-stage businesses across North Carolina.

Fractional means a senior executive — CEO, COO, CMO, CRO, or chief of staff — working with you part-time, typically one to three days a week, on a defined scope. Embedded advisory is similar but lighter-touch: we sit alongside your leadership team in standups, board prep, and key decisions for the duration of an initiative. Both are designed to give heart-led organizations senior strategic horsepower without the cost, risk, and turnover of a full-time hire.

Senior leadership roles are among the most expensive and most frequently replaced positions in any mission-driven organization. A failed C-suite hire often costs an organization 12–18 months of momentum and well over a year of fully loaded salary. Embedded and fractional engagements let you access that level of expertise immediately, scaled to what the plan actually needs, and structured so capacity is built into your team rather than locked inside one person’s head.

The first 30 days are listening: stakeholder interviews, document review, financial and operational diagnostics, and a structured read-out of what we’re seeing. By day 45 you have a working strategic frame and a prioritized set of moves. By day 60 we’ve co-created the plan, aligned leadership and the board, and — if execution support is part of the engagement — activated whichever network partners the plan calls for.

You’re ready if your leadership is willing to engage honestly, your team has the bandwidth for a real conversation, and you genuinely want execution — not just a deck. We’re a strong fit for organizations at an inflection point. We’re a poor fit for organizations seeking validation of a decision already made or looking for a vendor who will simply execute orders without challenge.

Most clients see strategic clarity within the first 60 days and tangible operational progress within 90 to 180 days. Larger outcomes — secured funding, repositioned organizations, new partnerships, durable revenue growth — typically land in the 12-to-24-month range. Our role is to compress those timelines and make the gains stick.

Yes — and that diagnostic is often the first piece of work we do. Many organizations either over-invest too early (hiring before the plan justifies it) or under-invest too late (waiting for certainty that never arrives). Our planning process surfaces the right sequence, the right capital strategy, and the right operating model so growth is funded by reality, not hope.
